Discrete breather in Fermi-Pasta-Ulam atomic chain

报告摘要:

  Discrete breathers (DBs), or intrinsic localized modes (ILMs) occupy a unique position in nonlinear waves and coherent structures. In this talk, we attempt to study the fundamental properties of discrete breathers in Fermi- Pasta-Ulam chain from two approaches. First, we will derive a quasi-continuum model equation, obtain its stationary and moving solutions, and further compare them with discrete breathers in lattices. Second, we will investigate a reduced three particle system. By a principal axis transformation, we will show the integrability of the system, and give exact periodic solutions in terms of the Jacobi elliptic functions. The significance of these findings lies in the fact that a close relationship between the third invariant, or the angular momentum, of the reduced system and the movability of discrete breathers is clarified.
