Algorithms for constructing high quality point
distributions are very useful in various applications ranging from imaging and
arts to physical modeling of nonlinear phenomena.
The centroidal Voronoi tessellation (CVT) and its various generalizations
provide a natural framework for generating such algorithms. In this talk, we
will introduce the CVT concept and discuss its applications.
In particular, applications to the numerical solution
of PDEs will be addressed.
