报告题目: Stable Embedded Solitons

Abstract: Embedded solitons are a novel class of solitary waves which reside inside the continuous spectrum of a nonlinear wave system. They have been found in a wide array of physical systems. Previous work has shown that embedded solitons are often semi-stable due to a resonance with the continuous spectrum. In this talk, we report the discovery of stable embedded solitons. The mathematical model we use is the perturbed complex modified Korteweg-de Vries equation, which has been used to model the evolution of ultra-short optical pulses. Using a soliton perturbation theory, we show that a continuous family of sech-shaped embedded solitons exist and are nonlinearly stable. These analytical results are confirmed by our numerical simulations. These results establish that, contrary to previous beliefs, embedded solitons can be robust despite being in resonance with the linear spectrum.
