Superconvergence in Generalized Finite Element Method

Superconvergence is an important and well known feature of the classic Finite Element Method (FEM), which allows accurate approximation of the derivatives of the underlying boundary value problem. We will show that a class o f Generalized Finite Element Method (GFEM) also has the superconvergence property. This class of GFEM uses special partition of a unity (PU) functions with "flat-tops", i.e., the value of each PU function is unity in a proper subset of its support. We will show the superconvergence phenomenon for this special class of GFEM using a $W^1_{\infty}$ analysis. Numerical examples will also be presented.
