Abstract:
The scattering problems for elastic waves have recently received ever increasing attentions in both the engineering and mathematical communities for their important applications in geophysics and seismology. In this talk we will discuss two spectral accurate solvers for elastic scattering problems in three dimensions via boundary integral equations. Through the Helmholtz decomposition, we split the elastic wave field into the compressional wave and shear wave. The well-posedness of the coupled system will be given. The two solvers, one based on Fast Fourier Transform and the other one based on the spherical harmonics, both give spectral accuracy in terms of the number of unknowns. Their applications to the multi-particle elastic scattering will also be discussed.
